Every year we look forward to whale watching season.  You’ll find us lingering by the living room window searching for a sign of a gray whale swimming by.  And every once in awhile someone will start jumping up and down having just spotted a spout shooting high up into the air.

Knowing that we are practically neighbors, even if just for a season, to these magnificent creatures is one of my favorite things about living on the coast.

The other morning I had my camera with me as I walked over to the office and I couldn’t help but snap a couple photos.  Everything was covered in a lovely layer of frost.  It’s been cold but crystal clear around here.  Makes for some beautiful mornings.

Brrrr. It’s time to take a small break from gardening. The frost is here and creating such a beautiful display.

The community gardens in Seaside have been such a wonderful opportunity to become better acquainted with our neighbors and to practice my gardening skills. We just finished up our last batch of cabbage.

I’m looking forward and planning for the spring already!

I think this is our family’s fourth fall season here on the coast.  And I don’t remember any of them being nearly as lovely as this one.  The weather has been so good to us.  In fact, yesterday the temperature reached a warm 59!  Today we are in for more warm sunny weather.

Driving over to Portland last week provided us with a lovely display of fall colors.  And running around town yesterday, I noticed so many brightly colored trees.  What a wonderful way to ease into winter.

For me, the seafood chowder is their star dish.  Gary Hayes at the Coast Explorer agrees with me:

Yummy Wine Bar & Bistro’s seafood chowder is a traditional New England style with halibut, Manila clams and diced prawns. The twist here is the use of yams that adds a touch of sweetness and a nice contrast for smoky bacon. Each bowl is made to order so the chunks of seafood, yams and bacon remain firm in the reduced and seasoned cream base. A sprinkling of fresh chopped parsley finish the dish.

Yum!

You won’t see inflated coastal prices at Yummy’s.  You will find fantastic art on display (currently showing work by Jorjett Stromme).  You won’t be able to bring your children (perfect date night spot!).  You will be treated to Corey’s cheerful smile and a friendly, well-educated serving staff on all things food and wine.
